Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 6 / Trend, A.Yusifzade /

National Iranian Offshore Oil Company (NIOOC) aims to accelerate studies on oil reservoirs and giving priority to increasing oil production from Soroush, Norouz, Hendijan, Bahregansar and Mahshahr oil fields, the managing director of NIOOC Mahmoud Zirakchianzade was quoted by Shana as saying.

Zirakchianzade had already reported of planning to develop 18 oil and gas fields in the Persian Gulf saying offshore oil production was going to increase at least by 25 thousand barrels a day during the current Iranian year ending on March 20 2011.

Hendijan, Bahregansar, Norouz, Soroush and Mahshahr are located near Bushehr province where oil production started in 1940s for the first time.

Currently more than 235,000 barrels of oil is being produced from Hendijan, Bahregansar, Soroush and Norouz oil fields.

Norouz and Soroush oil fields' production capacity amounts to 190,000 barrels of heavy and very heavy oil with 11 and 12 degree API gravity.
The managing director of NIOOC said earlier, that this Iranian calendar year 1389 (started March 21) oil draw from the offshore shared oilfields will increase by 20 percent in comparison to the previous year.

Talking to Shana reporter, Mr. Zirakchianzade stressed on priority of drawing from shared oil fields saying the company shares in 13 oil and gas fields with its neighbors. He also said that NIOOC extracts the highest oil and gas from shared fields in comparison to the other NIOC subsidiaries.

"Fortunately by increasing output from Hengam oil field and inauguration of a plan to increase oil output from Salman oil field up to year end, oil production from shared oil fields will increase by 20 percent when compared with average daily output last year and the process will continue next year.

Referring to oil draw outlook from the shared oilfields, the official said that NIOOC had proposed participation instead of competition in development and production from joint fields to the neighboring countries in the Persian Gulf.

According to NIOOC's managing director under the proposal the two sides will exploit the field jointly that not only will save reservoirs at a desirable condition but will improve the recovery rate of the fields.

He continued: 'by this way development investment and production costs will fall considerably and the two sides can benefit the highest from the joint development of the field.

Currently Iran shares in some oil and gas fields with its neighboring countries including Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Oman in waters of the Persian Gulf.

Also Iran and Iraq are shared in some onshore oil fields along their border. Bahrain is the only country excludes sharing an oil or gas field with Iran.
