Minister: Aktau port’s dry cargo capacity to reach 4 million tons by 2015

By 2015, the capacity of Aktau port, Kazakhstan for dry cargo is planned to reach 4 million tons, the Kazakh Transport and Communications Minister Abelgazi Kusainov said today in Astana at the enlarged meeting of the board of the country’s Transport and Communications Ministry with the Prime Minister Karim Masimov’s participation.

By 2015, the capacity of Aktau port, Kazakhstan for dry cargo is planned to reach 4 million tons, the Kazakh Transport and Communications Minister Abelgazi Kusainov said today in Astana at the enlarged meeting of the board of the country's Transport and Communications Ministry with the Prime Minister Karim Masimov's participation.

"At present, issues of creating dry cargo terminal on the concession basis, which will allow by 2015 to bring the port's designed capacity for dry cargo to 4 million tons, on the project of expanding the Aktau sea port in northern direction are being worked out," Kusainov said.

According to him, presently, the Aktau port's share in the total turnover in the Caspian region already accounts for about 31 percent.

In 2010, two new tankers with load-carrying capacity of 13,000 tons (in total 7 tankers operate under Kazakhstan's flag in the Caspian Sea) were added to the tanker fleet, Kusainov said.
