A large fishery maybe created in the Karakum desert in Turkmenistan, the local media reported on Thursday, citing the Turkmen National Institute of Deserts, Flora and Fauna.

"The man-made lake Altin Asir (which is under construction) in the north of Turkmenistan can be called the largest in Central Asia draining pond-storage of drainage water. Its volume will exceed the Sarykamysh Lake's reserves by 4-5 times," the Neytralniy Turkmenistan newspaper reported.

Scientists calculate and analyze perspectives of fisheries based on the future of the lake. According to their forecasts, through the decades the fish fauna of this lake will include species that are now in the lower and middle reaches of the Amu Darya, the irrigation system of the  Dashoguz region, river basins Tejen and Murghab. In total, it is 50 species.

The most important ones are carp, bream, sabrefish, Aral roach, chub, catfish, pike, and under certain conditions, goldfish, white and bighead carp, grass carp, pike, snakehead. Lake will be important for the conservation of such endangered representatives of ichthyofauna of the Aral Sea as a thorn silvereye, ide and rudd.

Scientists also take into account the factor that the future of the lake is an artificial reservoir. It is known that salinity of the lake can be greatly slowed, if it is provided with sufficient flow. But implementation of effective measures on pre-treatment of incoming drainage water from chemical impurities may, in their view, improve the quality of fishery products, and artificial colonization of marine phytoplankton species, zooplaktona, certain fish species will successfully implement fishery exploitation of the lake, even in conditions of high levels of water salinity.

Availability of the necessary concomitant hydraulic structures will not only ensure the excellent quality of fish products, but also meet all requirements of these farms.
