The Spanish Imagen Y Comunicacion expressed a desire to participate in projects implemented in the transport sector of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani Transport Ministry reported.

The company's representatives expressed an interest in participating in railway modernization projects and to improve the speed of trains in Azerbaijan during a meeting in Baku with Azerbaijani Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov.

During the meeting, Mammadov informed the company's representatives about the achievements of the country in the road transport sector.

The State Program on Railway Transport Development in 2010-2014 was approved in July. Its main goals are to continue reforms and to improve the legal framework for creating broad opportunities for commercial railway, to take measures to update the railway infrastructure, and to provide for improved cargo transportation, the volume of which will increase after the launch of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway.

The program also aims to improve the quality of cargo and passenger transportation and security by introducing scientific and technological advances and new technologies in transport infrastructure, to implement a strategy to improve passenger services and increase their profitability, to restore the northern section of the railroad, purchasing locomotives, to purchase diesel locomotives, and to train personnel.

Under the program, institutional reforms will be underway at Azerbaijani Railways in 2010-2011 to prepare and adopt rules for cargo and passenger transport, railway vehicle use, and traffic safety, and also to develop a bill on railway transport.

The program will be financed by Azerbaijani Railways, domestic and foreign investments, technical assistance and grants from other sources.
