Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb.4 / Trend, I. Khalilova /

In relation with the improvement of customs legislation in Azerbaijan, the Parliamentary Economic Policy Committee, jointly with the State Customs Committee (SCC), will hold a workshop in the near future, Ziyad Samadzade, the chairman of the parliamentary committee, said at a meeting while discussing the new customs code draft.

"The main goal of the event is public awareness about amendments to legislation, which also contributes to the prevention of customs violations in the country," Samadzade said. "Even investors before arrival in the country particularly get familiar with the provisions of tax and customs legislation."

After the discussions, the parliamentary committee recommended the parliament to adopt a new edition of the customs code in first reading. Samadzade said that its first discussion at the parliamentary meeting is expected on Feb. 11, but we believe that the Code will be finally adopted in three readings by late spring session.

The existing customs code was adopted in 1997.

"In recent years, customs revenues to the state budget increased by more than four times," Samadzade said. "Structure of the customs system is improving at a steady level, and the customs authorities have to conduct calculations on more than 10,000 commodity items. And each of these commodity items is backed by a certain normative act," he added.

According to SCC Chairman Aydin Aliyev, by adopting a new edition of the customs code, it will be necessary to improve about 70 percent of normative legal acts.
