Iran has imported 28.69 thousand tons of tea from Sri Lanka in 2010, Sri Lanka Business Online reported.

Sri Lanka earned a record $1.37 billion in tea exports in 2010, according to the report.

The island's tea export earnings from exporting 314 million kilos were 16 percent more than in 2009.

The members of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) have been major tea importers from Sri Lanka in 2010, totally importing 77.2 million kilogram of the crop.

United Arab Emirates has imported 30.2 million kilograms of Sri Lankan Tea, making it the second greatest importer.

Iran has also imported 28.69 thousand tons of tea from Sri Lanka being third greatest importer of the crop. In 2009, Iran has imported 28.62 thousand tons of tea from Sri Lanka.
