Incidents that first started in Tunisia and then spread to Egypt and Yemen have caused a negative impact on tourism sectors in these countries. Foreign tourists who cancelled their travels to these countries are expected to visit Turkey instead.

Basaran Ulusoy, chairman of Association of Turkish Travel Agencies, told correspondent of Anadolu News Agency on Friday that especially upheaval in Egypt caused cancellations of tours from several countries including Turkey to the region and the tourism sector in Egypt was affected negatively.

Ulusoy said that nearly 85 travel agencies in Turkey organized tours to Egypt, Tunisia, Jordan and Lebanon, stating that many Turkish travellers visited the region every year. "Several tours have been cancelled in the recent period. Tourists want to visit a safe country and don't want to have any problem during their holiday. I think that holidaymakers may prefer different destinations this year and they will probably prefer Turkey for their vacation," he added.
