Uzbekistan reannounces tender to reconstruct highway

The Uzbek Finance Ministry's Republican Road has reannounced a tender for the reconstruction of the Guzar-Bukhara-Nukus-Beyneu Highway (A-380) with a starting cost of $180 million.
The tender was announced for the reconstruction of 85-kilometer section (355-440 km) of the highway with replacement of two-lane asphalt surface to four-lane cement concrete pavement.
The construction period is 2 years.According to contest terms, the bids are accepted until July 12, 2011.
The tender will be summed up in the third quarter of 2011. Earlier, the tender was announced in February 2010, and its results were planned to be summed up in May.
The project will be funded at the expense of the Asian Development Bank's (ADB) loan worth $240 million allocated to Uzbekistan in April.
This is the second tranche out of three tranches within the ADB's multi-tranche financing in the amount of $600 million, allocated by the bank for the construction of national highway.
The funds will be directed to reconstruct over 220 kilometers of the A380 highway, and to provide training support for improved planning, project management, road asset management, and community facilities.
In May 2010, the ADB allocated the first tranche worth $ 115 million to Uzbekistan.
