Number of foreign tourists in Georgia increases by 44 percent

The number of foreign tourists who have visited Georgia since early 2011 hits 1 million. According to the National Tourism Agency, about 879,065 people visited Georgia in January-May 2011 or 44 percent more than last year.
About 267,107 Turkish tourists visited Georgia. About 243,346 Azerbaijani tourists and 192,468 Armenian tourists visited Georgia.
About 62,804 Russian tourists and 19,537 Ukrainian tourists visited Georgia in January-May.
According to the statistics, the number of European tourists increased by 44 percent (846,596 people) compared to last year. The number of visitors from the U.S increased by 17 percent (8,951), from East Asia by 25 percent (6,635), from the Middle East by 39 percent (1,443), from Southeast Asia by 94 percent (13,841) for the five months of the year.
About 597 tourists from the African continent visited Georgia or 77 percent more than last year.
About 532,210 people from the CIS countries visited Georgia in January-May or 46 percent more than last year.
