Iran, Russia boost relations on telecommunication

Manufacturing IranSat satellite is one ofIran's greatest requests from Russia, Head ofAerospace Organization of Iran Hamid Fazeli said in a meeting withRussia's Telecom Minister, IRNA reported on Wednesday.

Fazeli made this statement in a meeting with Igor Shchegolev atthe headquarters of the Aerospace Organization of Iran.

Fazeli referred to the cooperation protocol between the twocountries' aerospace organizations signed two years ago adding, "The mostimportant article in that protocol is manufacturing the IranSatsatellite."

He said that a joint workgroup has been established for thepurpose which has meetings once every six months, and that group hashad two meetings so far.

Iran and Russia agreed to establish high speed telecommunication lines called "Europe - Persia", Mehr News agency reported with reference to Ria Novosti quoting Shchegolev as saying.

The deal includes the establishment of telecommunication lines that joins Oman to Germany and transit through Russia and Iran.

According to Russian experts, the line runs through extraordinary route which joins Europe to near East and may expand to India.

Russian telecom company and TIC from Iran alongside Oman and British companies are in Mascot-Frankfurt line.

Russia launched a similar 13,500 kilometer communication line between Europe and China from Mongolia.

"Yet, the Telecommunications Ministry isthe major client and the ordering party of the entire satellites andsatellite telecommunications," Igor Shchegolev said

He said Russia is launching four new satellites by the end of this summer.
