Iran establishes a dry port in Maragheh that boosts country's economy in northwest, while being close to Iraq and Turkey's markets it will have profit, Fars News Agency reported quoting head of Business Organization Of East Azerbaijan Sadegh Najafi as saying.

The dry port ( inland port) is an inland intermodal terminal directly connected by road or rail to the seaport and operating as a centre for the transshipment of sea cargo to inland destinations

"Maragheh has the advantage of railway and closeness to Iraq and Turkey's markets, therefore, it's the best choice for launching a dry port in northeast of the country," he said.

The launch of transit terminal and cargo transshipment in Maragheh will reduce transportation costs and delivery time for exporters.

Maragheh terminal will improve fuel transit to Iraq with lower costs. Iran currently uses Suez Canal and Mediterranean Sea in Turkey to export fuel to Iraq.

Marageheh city is country's main producer of agricultural products, it annually produces 230,000 tons fruits.
