There are 61 taxi stands in Baku with a total capacity of 816 cars, which have permission for taxiing, Avtonegliyatservis Department head Rauf Orujov told the Khalq qazeti newspaper.

He said 100 new London Taxi TX4 purple cars have been delivered to Baku and by late this year their number will increase to 1,000 units.

The new taxis are mostly distributed to 11 taxi stands, Orujov said.

"The new cars that will prevail in the future in this sphere meet Euro-4 standards," Orujov said.

A new private company was established called Baku Taxi Company to develop a program launched by the Transport Ministry.

The company has set a tariff for the use of new taxis.

A supply agreement was signed with Shanghai LTI Company, a joint venture between Manganese Bronze Holdings and the Chinese Geely Automobile Holdings Limited. It is the largest contract for the company. The total cost is about $27 million.
