Georgia, Tbilisi, Aug.1 / Trend, N. Kirtskhalia /
An auction is being held today, selling management rights to a 100 percent share of state-owned "Alfakom", owner of the Tbilisi TV Tower.
According to the Georgian Economy and Sustainable Development Ministry, the starting sale price is 100,000 lari. The facility's accounts receivable amounts to 6,988,202 lari and accounts payable amounts to 2,917,158 lari. The facility's 100-percent share will be handed over with four years' management rights.
Georgian Teleradiocenter was named Alfakom a few months ago. It consists of 35 television and 34 radio channels. One of its important objects is the Tbilisi TV tower.
Part of the opposition, NGOs, and journalists opposed privatization. According to them, the authorities want alienation and to restrict media activity, thereby placing pressure on the opposed parties. They demand stopping privatization and disclosure of its terms.
Today, another rally will be held in front of the Economic Ministry, organized by the Coalition for Media Advocacy.
