Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept.7 / Trend, A. Akhundov /

CJSC "Azerbaijan Airlines" is studying opening of flights to the Far East, particularly to China, Thailand and Singapore, Silk Way Travel company director Shirzad Efendiyev told Trend.

"We are studying the reasonability of opening flights to these directions," he said.
He said flights to any above-mentioned directions may be opened in late 2011.

"We have recently launched new flights to Aberdeen, Prague, Istanbul and Simferopol, and after new aircrafts arrive the number of flights will increase," Efendiyev said.

He said the company postponed opening of a flight to Amsterdam for an indefinite term, as the studies showed that carrying out this flight would be unprofitable from an economic point of view. This project is suspended now, but is not excluded from the company's plans.
Efendiyev stressed that opening a direct flight to the United States will only be possible after new aircrafts are received.

"Now only one Boeing 767 aircraft is available in the fleet of the Azerbaijan Airlines. It is not enough to arrange a direct flight to the United States. This will be possible after receiving second such an aircraft in 2012 or the Boeing Dreamliner -787 in 2014," Efendiyev said.
