The meeting of representatives of business circles of Azerbaijan and Astrakhan region of Russia will give an impetus to development of relations between the two countries, Azerbaijani Deputy Economic Development Minister Niyazi Safarov said in Baku on Thursday at the presentation of economic opportunities of the region and Azerbaijan.

"Azerbaijan is constantly expanding trade relations with partner countries, so trade and economic ties with Russia each year develop in all spheres, including in non-oil sector. An integral part of this collaboration is to expand ties with the regions of the Russian Federation," said Safarov.

He said today the cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Astrakhan region has been established in different spheres, and today's event is to develop this cooperation and expand trade relations.

"Azerbaijan is a strategic partner for Russia in general and for our region in particular, said Governor of Astrakhan Region Alexander Zhilkin. - We proposed to the Government of Azerbaijan to consider the Astrakhan region as a place of development of business interests of Azerbaijan in the common economic area of the three states (Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia), which will run from Jan. 1, 2012. "
In addition to representatives of government agencies, the meeting was attended by about 50 businessmen working in such areas as industry, agriculture, logistics, health and other fields.

Last year, trade turnover between Azerbaijan and the Astrakhan region totaled $12 million, and it will reach $30 million by the end of this year.

According to the Federal Customs Service of Russia, Russian trade turnover with Azerbaijan amounted to $1.947.9 billion in 2010.
