The number of foreigners registered on the individual registration system of the Azerbaijani State Social Protection Fund increased by 16.7 per cent which equates to 1622, for the first three quarters of 2011, the Social Fund said on Friday.

The number of foreigners registered on the individual registration system of the Azerbaijani State Social Protection Fund increased by 16.7 per cent which equates to 1622, for the first three quarters of 2011, the Social Fund said on Friday.

As of October 1, 2011, the number of foreigners registered in the system increased to 11,733, the report said.

Foreigners registered in Azerbaijan come from 93 countries, the majority being Turkey with 6783. Georgian citizens ranked second at 1452 while Russians number 616.

Other countries number the following: 396 Iranians, 275 Indians, 244 Chinese, 146 citizens from the UK, 140 from Uzbek, 128 from Bosnia and Herzegovina, 102 Pakistanis, 98 Filipinos, 94 Germans, 92 Ukrainians, 80 Malaysians, 81 Turkmen citizens, 68 Kazakh citizens, 68 Italians and 62 Americans were registered.

The Azerbaijani President's decree on the law of 'Individual registration in the state social insurance' was originally signed in December 2001.

The individual registration is intended to organise and keep information about each insured person to provide them with pension and other social rights in accordance with the laws of the country.

The process of compulsory state social insurance of foreigners who receive salaries from sources in Azerbaijan, as well as income from which contributions are paid on compulsory social insurance, has been in force since Jan.1, 2006.
