The first large farms in Azerbaijan will be created in 2012, Agriculture Minister Ismet Abbasov told reporters on Tuesday.
"The issue is on the agenda today. The Agriculture Ministry is working together with the Economic Development Ministry, executive bodies, the State Committee for Land and Cartography and others, to create such farms," he said.
Earlier, Abbasov said it is initially planned to create large farms covering 100,000 hectares of irrigated lowland areas.
The State Committee for Land and Cartography is working to verify the effectiveness of these lands.
"Upon the completion of these studies we will discuss it in the government, then will start the process of their creation," Abasov said.
