In line with the terms of a contract with the Croatian shipyard Ulyanik, keel of two ferryboats for the Azerbaijani state-run Caspian Shipping Company (CSC) will be built within 10 days, CSC Chief Aydin Bashirov told reporters on Wednesday.

He said the CSC intends to receive these ferries next year before the navigation season at canals in the Russian Federation's territory - the early November - is over.
The CSC has already received two new ferries, he said.

Since 2002, the CSC has received one new cargo ship, two tankers with the deadweight of 8,000 tons, seven tankers with the deadweight of 13,000 tons, and one tanker with the deadweight of 12,000 tons.
The CSC carries about 13 million tons of cargoes annually. Despite competition, which has lately emerged in the Caspian Sea as the Caspian littoral states established their national shipping companies, the CSC undertakes every necessary measure to keep its leading position.
