Turkmen, Swiss banks expand links

A Turkmen delegation headed by head of the Central Bank of Turkmenistan Tuvakmamed Japarov, left the country for Berne and Zurich to further expand and develop cooperation with the Swiss National Bank, an official Turkmen source reported.

A Turkmen delegation headed by head of the Central Bank of Turkmenistan Tuvakmamed Japarov, left the country for Berne and Zurich to further expand and develop cooperation with the Swiss National Bank, an official Turkmen source reported.

The visit will last till Nov.12.

Vice President, Finance Minister of Switzerland Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf recently visited Ashgabat and met with President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov.

During the meeting both discussed the prospects of expanding a long term partnership, initially built on a bilateral and multilateral basis on the principles of equality and mutual benefit.

"The sides considered the possibilities of intergovernmental cooperation on a number of key areas, including in the energy, the economy, investment and tourism, in which Switzerland has a lot of experience," the report reads.

Previously an interim meeting of the Governors of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank belonging to the Swiss group was held in the Avaza resort area in Turkmenistan on Sept 3-4.
