Georgia attaches great importance to the presence of high-quality transportation infrastructure in the region with a view to develop the economy, Prime Minister Nika Gilauri at the opening of a conference on the Transport Infrastructure Development in the South Caucasus today.
The two-day international conference on the 'Prospects of transport infrastructure development in the South Caucasus' runs in Tbilisi under the auspices of the World Bank and the Regional Development and Infrastructure Ministry.
"One of the important health factors of the Georgian economy is the diversification of economic sectors. We are not dependent on any particular country. Georgia diversified trade, energy and investment, however the transport infrastructure development in the region is also important for the country's economic development," Mr. Gilauri said.
Azerbaijani Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov also attends the event.
Delegates will be presenting their views on transport infrastructure development in the region. Prospects of road and rail infrastructure in the South Caucasus will be discussed and the ministry aims to establish closer cooperation within the infrastructure projects.
Donor countries, which are willing to invest in joint projects to develop transport infrastructure in the region also participate in the conference. The conference will adopt a memorandum.
