The number of microcredit recipients increased by 2.8 times or by 312,300 people in Kyrgyzstan, the annual publication of the Kyrgyz National Statistics Committee said.

"The number of microcredit recipients increased by 2.8 times (by 312,300 people - KirTAG), amounting to 485,000 people compared to 2006," the statement said. "Microcredit organizations gave loans worth 15 billion 439.9 million soums."

The report said that many women received microcredit within 5 years.

According to information provided by the NSC KirTAG, most borrowers used the loan funds for business development, primarily in trade and catering, or agriculture, Kyrgyz National Statistics Committee told KirTAG.

Most microcredit recipients were from Jalal-Abad oblast - 18.5 percent, Issyk-Kul oblast - 17.1 percent, Osh oblast - 13.9 percent and Chui oblast - 13.6 percent.
