Wheat leads Kazakh exports to Azerbaijan

In January-August 2011, trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan amounted to $148.5 million, the Kazakh Economic Development and Trade Ministry told Trend on Thursday by e-mail.

"There is a black ink mark in foreign trade, which during this period hit $60.7 million," the ministry said.

Kazakh exports to Azerbaijan declined by 36 per cent in January-August 2011 and amounted to 104.6 million compared to $164.5 million during the same period of 2010.

Wheat and meslin (a mixture of wheat and rye) with a share of 19.7 per cent led in the Kazakh exports. During the eight months, Kazakhstan exported 83,600 tons of grain products worth $20.6 million to Azerbaijan.

Some 14.7 per cent of exports account for flat bars made from iron or unalloyed steel with a 600mm width plated with galvanic or other coatings, which was supplied to Azerbaijan to the sum of 14,800 tons worth $15.4 million.

Cruises, excursions, cargo vessels, ferries, barges and similar vessels for passenger or cargo transportation ranked third in the range of export products with share of 8.8 per cent. During the eight months, five units of them weighing 2400 tons and worth $9.2 million were delivered.

According to the ministry, Kazakhstan imported products totalling $43.8 million from Azerbaijan in January-August 2011.

During the reporting period 27,886.3 tons of cane or beet sugar and chemically pure sucrose in solid form worth $27.8 million (63.4 per cent of total imports), 3880.4 tons of pipes, tubes, hollow, seamless profile and profiles of iron (other than cast iron) worth $3.8 million (8.9 per cent) and 1820 tons of ethylene polymers in primary forms worth $2.8 million (6.5 per cent) were exported to Kazakhstan.
