Turkey has completed constructing a border tunnel within the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars to the Georgian border, Anadolu agency reported.

At present, the operations are underway to complete the project on the Turkish territory, despite the hard weather conditions.

Turkey has performed 35 percent of the activities in the construction of a 76-kilometer stretch of railway along the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars route, the Turkish Transport Ministry reported earlier.

Some 290 million Turkish lire have been spent for the construction of the Turkish segment.
A tender worth 700-750 million Turkish lire will be announced for the remainder of the building activities.

A new 105-kilometer railroad branch will be constructed as a part of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway. About 76 kilometers will stretch via Turkey, and 29 kilometers through Georgia.

The peak capacity of the corridor, which will be launched in early 2013, will hit 17 million tons of cargo. At the initial stage, this figure will be at the level of 1 million passengers and 6.5 million tons of cargo.
