Existing national currencies are not suitable as the Eurasian Union's single currency, RIA Novosti quotes the Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev as saying.

"First, we have to prove profitability and equality of our economic space. And then we can raise the issue of the single currency," Nazarbayev said.

Presidents of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, Dmitry Medvedev, Alexander Lukashenko and Nursultan Nazarbayev signed a declaration on the Eurasian economic integration in Moscow on Friday. It is a road map of the integration process, aimed at the establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union.

"Meanwhile, I do not think that any national currency, including such powerful as the ruble is suitable for this role. This should be another currency with a different name," Nazarbayev added.

Nazarbayev also stressed that introducing single currency within the Eurasian Union has not been discussed so far.
