Azerbaijan needs to build a plant for gold enrichment to serve the huge gold mines, Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Huseyn Bagirov said to Trend.

"Anglo Asian Mining Plc has a gold enrichment plant, while AIMROC / Londex Resources SA is building another one. I think another plant should be built, as this plant is designed for medium and scarce deposits. It would be wrong to use such technology on rich deposits, it is impractical to extract one part of the gold from these fields and the other left in the rock. There must be a factory for more efficient operation of such deposits," Bagirov said.

According to Bagirov, the construction of the plant, which is built by AIMROC / Londex Resources SA, should be completed early next year.

"The enriched gold is sent to Switzerland for refinery," Bagirov said. "We do not need to build such a plant. There are two or three similar plants amid dozens of gold producers worldwide. Its construction will be unprofitable. Such a plant should be turned into a regional center. As minimum 15-20 countries should supply gold to this plant to enable it to operate normally. Otherwise, the plant with such expensive equipment will be idle.

For example, a factory in Switzerland spends us roughly 0.5-1 percent of its power."
