The official ceremony of the Kazakh railway's docking near Zhetigen-Khorgos with Chinese one near Jinghe-Khorgas took place on Friday, Novosti-Kazakhstan reported.
The ceremony was attended by the Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Industry and New Technologies Aset Isekeshev, Kazakh Transport and Communication Minister Berik Kamaliyev, head of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (railway) Askar Mamin and Vice Prime Minister of Chinese State Council Zhang Detszyan side.
Railway Zhetigen-Korgas will enhance the competitiveness of Kazakhstan's economy due to the increased export and transit capacity. This railway is the shortest possible way for cargo transported from Russia, China and European countries through Central Asia.
The traffic volume of a new railway will be 7 million tons in 2012. By 2020 the volume will reach 13 million tons, including 8 million tons of transit.
