Turkmenistan opens int’l cotton fair

Turkmenistan, which is one of the top ten world cotton producers, will hold the first International Cotton Fair on Dec.6-8 in Ashgabat, an official Turkmen source said.
Organizers report that the main goals of the exhibition-fair are: boosting long-term cooperation with international organizations and companies - end users of cotton, cotton products, as well as familiarizing consumers with the quality parameters of the Turkmen cotton, achievements and prospects in the processing raw cotton, production of cotton products, trade and logistics.
In these days it is also planned to hold a conference on current issues facing the world cotton and textile industry, as well as the region's countries, especially Turkmenistan.
Particular attention will be paid to promotion of the Turkmen cotton products in the world market, today's challenges, scientific research and investments in the cotton production sector and cotton processing industry of Turkmenistan.
The preparation of the event was discussed at a recent government meeting. Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov focused on introducing more improved methods of management of agricultural industry and new technologies to improve the profitability of the sector.
About 550,000 hectares was given to cotton in the country this year. Turkmenistan has collected more than 1.050 million tons of raw cotton in line with its contractual obligations.
