Tourism revenues up in Kazakhstan

Total revenue from tourism amounted to 82.3 billion tenge (over $553 million), in Kazakhstan for the first nine months of 2011. The increase hit 5.2 per cent compared to the same period in2010, chairman of the Agency for Sports and Physical Education Talgat Ermegiyaev said at a meeting on Wednesday.

He said that last year the tourism sector developed well in the country. Several memorandums were signed resulting in the palace of sports, two fitness centres, 199 gyms, 100 hockey grounds, 40 tennis courts, 12 swimming pools and 10 ski centres being commissioned.

The number of sports facilities increased by 1550 taking the total of units to 32,816 over the country in 2011.

The construction of a ski resort in the Bohr area is planned to be launched in April 2012.
