Kazakh company increases aluminum production by 9.8 percent in 2011

Kazakh metallurgy group Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation PLC (ENRC) increased aluminum production by 9.8 percent in 2011 compared to the results of 2010, the company reported on Wednesday. According to the report, ENRC produced 249,000 tons of aluminum in January to December 2011 compared to 227,000 tons produced in 2010.

Alumina production was increased by 1.8 percent from 1.640 million tons to 1.670 million tons.

Meanwhile, the company's ferroalloy production decreased by 2.1 percent from 1.803 million tons in 2010 to 1.766 million tons in 2011.

Moreover, ENRC decreased chrome ore extraction by 4.7 percent from 4.822 million tons in 2010 to 4.594 million tons in 2011. Magnesium ore extraction fell by 3 percent in this period from 2.807 million tons to 2.723 million tons.

Iron ore extraction decreased from 43.614 million tons to 43.212 million ton in 2011 (0.9 percent fall).

Meanwhile ENRC increased copper ore extraction by 16.2 percent from 1.437 million tons in 2010 to 1.670 million tons in 2011 and cobalt ore extraction by 2.1 percent from 1.036 million tons in 2010 to 1.058 million tons in 2011.
