Kazakhstan increases coal production

Kazakhstan has increased coal production by 4.4 percent in 2011, Industry and New Technologies Minister Aset Issekeshev said at a board meeting today.

"Coal-mining enterprises produced 110 million tons of coal last year or 4.4 percent more than in 2010," he said.

He said electricity generation amounted to 86.2 billion kilowatt-hours in the country last year, consumption - 88.1 kilowatt-hours of electricity, imports - 3.7 billion kilowatt-hours, and exports - 1.8 billion kilowatt-hours.
