Uzbekistan, Switzerland discuss expansion of cooperation

Leadership of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry discussed issues of expansion of bilateral cooperation with ambassador of the Swiss Confederation Anne Bauty on Thursday.

The sides said current mechanisms of Uzbek-Swiss cooperation, such as political consultations between the foreign ministries as well work of intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation should play important role in strengthening cooperation.

During the talk the sides exchanged views on events related to the upcoming 20th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Switzerland.

Diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Switzerland were established in 1992. The main areas of bilateral cooperation are determined at regular meetings of the Uzbek-Swiss intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation.

The Swiss government assists Uzbekistan in the sphere of development of entrepreneurship and small private business.

In particular, the Uzbek-Swiss agreement on the implementation of 'Development of professional skills in the sphere of water economy in Uzbekistan' program was signed in June, 2011. The agreement aims at creating new model of cooperation between the professional colleges and entrepreneurs on management of water resources in training and retraining of professional personnel for this sphere.

'Development of professional skills in the sphere of water economy in Uzbekistan' program is part of agreement on technical and financial cooperation and humanitarian aid signed between the countries in 2002.

At present, there are 95 enterprises with Swiss capital's stock in Uzbekistan. Some 68 of them are joint and 27 enterprises with 100-per cent Swiss capital.

As many as 35 offices of Swiss firms and companies are accredited under the Uzbek Ministry for foreign economic relations, investments and trade.
