Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb.3 /Trend N.Ismayilova/

A new tender for the selection of a contractor to carry out works on the two remaining sites in the construction of Masalli-Astara four-lane speed highway will be announced in February, the ADB told Trend in Baku on Friday.

"It is expected that we will determine the contractor by mid-2012, and will launch the construction by the end of 2012," the ADB noted.

A new tender was announced with regard to the abolition of the previous due to the fact that the bidding procedure lasted a year, respectively the submitted proposals were out of date and needed revision. In addition, design work is planned to make closer to the pace of land acquisition, it means that modification of road's sections is possible.

The process of land acquisition for the construction of a new four-lane road is delayed due to the fact that number of owners of the land is abroad.

In any case, changes to the project will not require attraction of additional funds, because the loan worth $200 million approved recently by ADB already includes incidental expenses.

These funds were allocated from the Multitranche Financing Facility (MFF) for Road Network Development Program in Azerbaijan to the amount of $200 million approved in August 2007. MFF has already allocated $455.4 million.

The first tranche of $200 million has been allocated to construct the road Masalli-Astara, the second ($55.4 million) to reconstruct the Ganja circle road, the third ($200 million) to continue the construction of the Masalli-Astara road.

Azerinsaatservis construction company was chosen to build the first section of the road (A)
