Kazakh banks increase assets by 6.5 percent in 2011

Total assets of Kazakh banks increased by 6.5 percent in 2011 to 12.809 trillion tenge ($86.16 billion) as of Jan. 1, 2012, Novosti-Kazakhstan reported referring to the Committee for the Control and Supervision of the Financial Market and Financial Organizations under the Kazakh National Bank.

According to the Committee, total equity of Kazakh banking sector increased by 7.8 percent in this period to 1.961 trillion tenge ($13.19 billion).

Kazakh banks' assets in foreign currency totaled 34.5 percent of total assets as of Jan. 1.

Banks' loan portfolio (including interbank loans) made up 10.443 trillion tenge ($70.25 billion) as of Jan. 1 (15.2 percent up). Banks' loans provided in foreign currency amounted to 44.1 percent of the total loan portfolio.

Standard loans amounted to 25.8 percent in the structure of banks' loan portfolio as of Jan. 1, doubtful loans hit 52.4 percent, bad loans by 21.8 percent. Loans of the fifth doubtful category and bad loans (including homogeneous loans provisions) hit 35 percent of the total loan portfolio.
