Turkish banks increase lending to economy

The volume of credit investments of Turkey's banking sector increased by 1.06 percent in January 2012 compared to the previous month and amounted to 686.27 billion liras, Turkey's state agency for bank activities control reported on Tuesday.

Lending to financial sector amounted to 14.127 billion liras in January. Credits allocated by banks to non-financial organizations amounted to 77.695 billion liras.

Consumer lending increased by 0.5 percent to 168.246 billion liras during the month.
The volume of commercial loans allotted by banks increased by 0.75 percent in January as compared to the previous month and hit 75.506 billion liras.

The official exchange rate on February 7 is 1.7557 TRY/USD.
