On behalf of President Nursultan Nazarbayev, the Agency for the Regulation of Natural Monopolies (ARNM) of Kazakhstan has reduced the issuance of licenses to six activity categories from Jan 31, 2012. These include 21 subtypes and four types with five subtypes, the ARNM press-service reported.

Currently the territorial departments of the agency retained the licensing of the following activities: transfer and (or) the distribution of electricity and (or) thermal energy; operation of gas pipelines, oil pipelines, oil pipelines, transportation of passengers by railway. The agency's central office conducts a licence for the purchase of electricity. Appropriate changes were made to existing legislation in July 2011.

Overall, the Agency has issued more than three and a half thousand licences and applications. Relating to the reduction of licensed activities, control is removed from one and a half thousand licensees and the need to provide annual reports is excluded as well.

The Agency sent proposals to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade to reduce the above mentioned level and to issue permits for linking up roads to the station and trunk routes for the purposes of further optimisation of the control and supervisory functions of state bodies
