Volume of foreign investments in Azerbaijan's economy ups by almost 50 percent

The total volume of foreign investments in Azerbaijan's economy in January 2012 amounted to 242.5 million manat, which is 47.6 per cent more than the same period of 2011, the State Statistics Committee said on Friday.

In January, 87.3 percent (211.6 million manat) of investments in Azerbaijan's economy made by foreign countries and international organizations accounted for investors from the UK, U.S., Japan, Norway and Turkey.

As before, the UK continues to preserve its a leading position in this list. Its share in total foreign investments hit 41.1 percent, while its investments amounted to 99.7 million manat.
Investments of the U.S. amounted to 63.9 million manat (26.3 per cent), Japan - 23.9 million manat (9.9 percent), Norway - 13.5 million manat (5.6 percent), Turkey - 10.6 million manat (4.4 percent), France - 9.2 million manat (3.8 percent), Italy - 31,500 manat.

From international financial institutions, the World Bank in January invested 16.6 million manat with share of 6.8 percent, the Asian Development Bank - 5.05 million manat (2.1 percent).

The official exchange rate is 0.7863 manat to $1 on Feb.17.
