Russian company to supply fittings for transmission lines in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan will purchase from South-Ural Insulators and Fittings Plant (Chelyabinsk region), a member of the Global Insulator Group, insulators and fittings worth $4 million for the construction of a 500 kV high voltage power transmission line at the Talimardjan thermal power plant Sogdiana Substation, Uzbekenergo told Trend on Thursday.

The construction of power transmission linesworth $188.4 million and having a length of 218 km, is part of the investment project to modernise the Talimardjan thermal power plant (TPP) in the Kashkadarya region in the south.

Equipment delivery will begin soon and be completed in August 2012.

Previously, the Uzbek power engineering specialists used equipment of a Russian company in the construction of the 500 kV high voltage power transmission line Syrdarya - Sogdiana having length of 240 km and at the high voltage power transmission line Guzar - Surkhan with a length of 220 km.

The construction of the Talimardjan TPP - Sogdiana Substation power transmission line is funded by a loan from World Bank (WB) to the sum of $110 million provided over 25 years with a five-year grace period and the funds of Uzbekenergo. The project to build transmission lines is scheduled to be carried out until 2015.

Uzbekistan launched a project to modernise Talimardjan TPP worth $1.28 billion in 2010.

The project envisages construction of two combined cycle plants with a capacity of 450 MW, the construction of 500 kV Talimardjan TPP - Sogdiana substation and a new 500 kV substation for Talimardjan TPP.

The project is financed by loans from the Asian Development Bank to the sum of $350 million, the Japan International Cooperation Agency - $300 million, the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan - $250 million and the funds of Uzbekenergo.

After upgrading the capacity of the thermal power plant will increase output to 1,600 MW and electricity generation up to 9.8 billion kWh / year.
