Iran to up steel and aluminum production

This year, Iran will inaugurate 15 mining projects worth $2.2 billion (USD), the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reports.

Production of steel, cement aluminum and iron ore is scheduled to increase this year (Iran's solar year ended on March 19) as part of the effort to support Iranian investments and jobs, Vajiollah Jafari, head of the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development & Renovation Organization (IMIDRO), said.

Last year Iran's raw steel production grew almost by 11 percent and is targeted to reach more than 16 million tons in the current year.

The production of steel products is predicted to increase by 9 percent, totaling 18 million tons.

Aluminum production is forecasted to increase by 26 percent and iron ore's production will grow by 7.5 percent
