A new head of the national group of SWIFT users has been elected in Azerbaijan, banking circles told Trend on Tuesday.

At the meeting held with representatives of banks on Tuesday, Pasha bank's Operations Director Emil Hajiyev has been elected the head of the national group.

Previously, CEO of the Azericard processing center Elmar Sadikhov who died in 2010 held this post. Later, these powers were temporarily performed by the International Bank of Azerbaijan.

"Hajiyev has long led the SWIFT-group in the Central Bank of Azerbaijan, and has extensive experience in this area," said the source.

SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) is an international organization working in the field of financial communications since 1973. More than 9,000 banks, financial institutions and corporations from 209 countries around the world use the SWIFT network to exchange standardized financial messages. Currently SWIFT is the only organization that is financially responsible for the transmission of messages between users via its network. Each year, 2.5 billion payment orders go through SWIFT.
