Twenty of Iran's provinces have gold deposits, the IRIB News website reports.
The third biggest gold consumer in Asia, Iran's proven gold deposits total 140 tons, said the Geological Survey of Iran's Deputy Director of Exploration Behrouz Borna.
Half of the gold produced in the world is used by Asia. In 2011, the world capacity for gold production by 100 countries was 2,700 tons annually said Mr Borna. Iran hold six-tenths of one per cent of the world's gold.
