A new seaport will be built in Batumi in 2013. According to Adjara's government, Royal Caribbean will complete its engineering design by September this year. According to preliminary data, the company will begin constructing in October this year.

The piers of the Batumi port will be lengthened to enable them to receive large ships. Adjara's government cannot specify what investments will be made in the port's construction as the Royal Caribbean Company must conduct underwater work to deepen the seabed. Afterwards, the issue of financing will be clarified.

The company will control the old port area by fully reconstructing it within the existing preliminary project. After completing the reconstruction, Batumi port will be able to receive all ships sailing in the Black Sea.

Adjara's government claims that after the project is implemented, Batumi will be able to receive more cruise ships. This will increase the flow of tourists to the Adjara region.

It should be stressed that Royal Caribbean International Cruise Holding is the second largest cruise company after Carnival Cruise Lines. The company controls 25 per cent of the cruise market. Its headquarters is located in Miami and its fleet comprised of 42 cruise ships in 2011.
