The Azerbaijani State Customs Committee plans to raise the issue of assigning international status to another frontier checkpoint on the Georgian border, State Customs Committee Chairman Aydin Aliyev told
media today.

Two checkpoints "Sinigkorpu" and "Boyuk Kasik" have such a status on the border.

"Sadihli is likely to be the third point," Aliyev said. "Taking into account the growth in freight traffic on the border with Georgia, we want this checkpoint to get international status, after accomplishment and improvement."

He said that this will accelerate the transportation of goods across the border and will increase the volume of trade turnover.

"This measure is necessary to solve the problem of car queues on both sides and to regulate transit cargo transportation," he said. "We have reached an agreement with the Georgian side, and will appeal to the government with this proposal."

He added that there is no necessity to increase the number of checkpoints with the international status on the state borders with other countries.
