Georgia’s tourist number grows by 45 percent

During the first four months of 2012, some 978,521 tourists visited Georgia, the Georgian Interior Ministry said on Tuesday.
According to the ministry, in April, the number of visitors totaled 301,243, which is 61 percent more compared to the same period last year.
The total number of visitors for the first four months of 2012 is 45 percent higher compared to the same period last year.
Most visitors came to Georgia from Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russia, Ukraine and Iran.
The number of tourists from EU countries also increased significantly. Citizens of Moldova and Austria showed great interest, the growth in tourist numbers from which was 73 and 83 per cent respectively.
In 2011, as many as 2,822,363 tourists visited Georgia.
