Uzbekistan's population increases in January-March

Uzbekistan's resident population has exceeded 29 million people as of April 1, or a 0.3 percent increase, the State Statistics Committee reported on Thursday.

In particular, the urban population amounted to 15 million 177.6 thousand (51.2 percent of the total population), rural population - 14 million 460.3 thousand people (48.8 percent).

The birth rate in the January-March this year amounted to 17.1 ppm (per 1,000 inhabitants) compared to 16.8 per thousand for the same period in 2011 (an increase by 0.3 per thousand).

The mortality rate amounted to 4.8 per thousand in the first quarter of the year, an increase by 0.2 ppm compared to same period of 2011.

During the first three months of the year57 thousand marriages, and five thousand divorces have been registered. As per one thousand population is 7.7 of marriage (in January-March 2011 - eight marriages) and 0.7 divorces (0.6).

The number of arrivals to the country in the first quarter amounted to 30.2 thousand, the number of drop-outs - 37.5 thousand people.

Accordingly, the migration balance was minus 7.3 thousand compared to
minus 7.1 thousand a year earlier.

According to the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare, the number of citizens who are registered by agencies for labor, as job seekers at the end of March amounted to 14.5 thousand people compared to 18.6 thousand in the corresponding date in 2011.

At the same time the number of unemployed as defined by the method of calculating the unemployed, approved by the Government of the Republic amounted to 625.5 thousand. Thus, the unemployment rate amounted to five percent of the economically active population, according to State Statistics Committee.
