The idea of establishing a regular car-ferry service across the Caspian Sea, in particular, between the ports of Turkmenbashi and Baku, 'deserves full support', the Turkmen state news agency reported on Tuesday.

In this regard, one of the main issues on the agenda of a forum recently held in Ashgabat, was the development of this type of shipping.

The discussion was held during the international conference "Prospects for development of transport and transit of Central Asian and Caspian region", which was intended to contribute to the implementation of the UN agenda, in particular, the implementation of the Almaty Programme of Action to implement the potential of landlocked and transit countries.

The event was organised by the Government of Turkmenistan in collaboration with the International Road Transport Union, with the support of specialised institutions and structures of the UN, the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe and the Intergovernmental Euro-Caucasus-Asia Transport Commission (TRACECA - Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia).

The forum was attended by representatives from 20 countries and 15 international organisations.
