Kazakhstan Railways and Toyota intend to cooperate

Kazakhstan Temir Joly (Kazakhstan Railways) national company president Askar Mamin has signed memorandums of cooperation aimed at developing the company within the V Astana Economic Forum, the company said.

The first document is a memorandum of cooperation and interaction between Kazakhstan Railways and Toyota Tsusho Corporation. This document was signed by presidents of Kazakhstan Railways Askar Mamin and Toyota Tsusho Corporation Jun Karube for the sides to cooperate within Kazakhstan Railways's project 'Global Partner', which was created to conduct the operations to establish active cooperation with the world leaders in the field of logistics.

"Toyota" has a worldwide trade network consisting of 94 domestic and 344 foreign consolidated groups of companies. "Toyota" positioned Asia and Oceania, the Chinese region, Europe and North America as four key regions for business development. At present, "Toyota" implements a number of projects in Kazakhstan, including the creation of the logistics route China - Russia - Turkey - Central Asia. The company's main activity is domestic wholesale trade, import, export, investment projects, insurance, etc.

The sides discussed the issue of Toyota's participation in the special economic zone "Khorgos - East Gate" to increase freight flow from Japan, South Korea, China and other countries to Europe, the Commonwealth of Independent States and Central Asian region and in the reverse direction through Kazakhstan.

The companies agreed upon the conditions of transporting the goods through Kazakhstan on the basis of close cooperation in the sphere of transport logistics. Moreover, an agreement on the interaction between the parties was reached to implement the projects on integrated logistics products in Kazakhstan and Japan.

The parties also agreed to establish a permanent working group of competent specialists to conduct the joint operations and consultations on transport and logistics projects in Kazakhstan, as well as the activities to increase the freight flow of Japanese and Kazakh transit goods and increase the attractiveness of the routes using multi-modal transport.

Askar Mamin said that the creation of joint integrated transport and logistics products via all competitive transit routes through the country aims to promote the formation of Kazakhstan as a transport and logistics hub in the region.

Moreover, Kazakhstan Temir Joly, General Electric Company and Transmashdizel signed a memorandum of intention to establish a company for production of diesel engines and spare parts in Kazakhstan.

The document was signed by president of Kazakhstan Railways Askar Mamin, president and chief executive director of General Electric Transportation Lorenzo Simonelli.

This memorandum envisages the establishment of GEVO diesel engine production with a capacity of up to 400 units per year and spare parts through General Electric's technology in Astana. The engines will be primarily used in the production of Kazakh diesel locomotives Evolution.

According to the document, the new company will produce and sell the goods for railway and ships. It is assumed that GEVO diesel engines will be sold in the markets of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Moldova, Estonia, Georgia, Mongolia, Latvia, Lithuania.
