Uzbekistan’s public foreign debt increased in 2011

The Uzbek foreign debt rose in 2011 by 6.4 percent to 9.1 percent of the GDP, the RIA-Analysis Center for Economic Research said on Wednesday.

According to the Center, the public debt per capita in Uzbekistan rose last year by $7 and amounted to $143 as of 2011.

In the Center's ranking, Uzbekistan ranked 159th place among 168 countries of the world in terms of debt per capita and 162th in terms of debt to GDP ratio.

Ranking of countries by level of public debt has been prepared by the Center's experts, based on IMF data, the report says.

According to State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan, the country's GDP in 2011 grew by 8.3 percent, compared with 2010, and exceeded 77.750 trillion soums at current prices. The population size of Uzbekistan in 2011 increased by 1.5 per cent - up to 29,559,100 people.

The official exchange rate is 1871.44 soums to $ 1 on May 30.
