Baku Metro will gradually replace its older escalators by more modern ones at deep-laid stations, assistant head of Baku Metro Mammad Bayramov told Trend on Friday.
He said the process of replacing the old Soviet-made escalators had already begun. In particular, the replacement of escalators at the Icherisheher station was carried out.
"Modern escalators are installed during the construction of new stations," he said.
According to Bayramov, the process of reconstruction of the main exit of 'May 28' station, which will see the replacement of the escalator with three lanes by four, will start on June 10.
He said metro stations 'Sahil', 'Elmlar Akademiyasi', 'Nizami' and 'Khatai' are among other deep-laid stations which needs modern escalators.
"Replacing the escalators will be carried out gradually," Bayramov said.
