Non-bank deposits in Georgian banking sector hit 7 million lari

Non-bank deposits placed in the banking sector as of June 1 amounted to 7.1 billion lari ($ 1 = 1.64 lari), which is 371.5 million, or 5.5 percent more than the figure as of May 1, 2012.

In May, compared with the previous month, there was an increase in demand deposits by 64.0 million lari or 2.0 percent, and growth of term deposits in the by 307.4 million lari, or 8.9 per cent, the Georgia's National bank told Trend on Friday.

Dollarization ratio of deposits as of June 1, 2012 amounted to 62.23 percent - 3.0 percent more than as of 1 May. Increase was due to the placement of income from the sale of the Eurobonds of Georgian oil and gas corporations on deposits. Without taking into account this fact, dollarization ration of deposits by the end of May was 60.86 per cent compared to 59.23 percent at the end of April.

The weighted average interest rate on term deposits was 9.0 percent, in particular, deposits in national currency - 11.5 percent and in foreign currency - 8.7 percent.

The share of dollar in foreign currency deposits amounted to 80.2 per cent, while the euro - 17.3 percent.
