In January - June 2012, Uzbekistan increased production of cotton fiber by 0.8 percent up to 594,853 tons compared to the same period of 2011, Uzbek State Statistics Committee said.
During the same period production of cotton yarn decreased by 0.9 percent to 65,631 tons, cotton textiles - by 17.8 percent to 26.597 million square meters.
As it was reported, production of cotton fiber in Uzbekistan decreased by 1.4 percent to 1.099 million tons, cotton yarn production - by 34.1 percent to 122,400 tons in 2011 compared to the same period of 2010. Output of cotton textiles decreased by 37.8 percent and hit 54.726 million square meters.
Uzbekistan ranks sixth in the world for production and third for exporting cotton fiber. Every year the country produces about 3.5 million tons of raw cotton and 1.0 - 1.2 million tons of cotton fiber.
Over 75 percent of produced cotton fiber is exported.
